Understanding Community Discernment

The 2023 RC Territorial Convention is an opportunity for community discernment. 


In this video, Fr. Shawn Aaron, LC, Territorial Director of the Legionaries of Christi, and Kathleen Murphy, Territorial Director of the Consecrated Women of Regnum Christi, share their perspective on what community discernment means and how we can prepare ourselves for this experience. 

Regnum Christi Identity Essays

Every charism springs from a mystery in the life of Christ, from contemplating him and from living that mystery, which is part of the mystery of Christ himself.

 

The essays available here reflect on the charism according to the Regnum Christi Statutes and the mystery of Christ’s life which gives rise to the Regnum Christi identity. They include workshops and questions that help us concretely understand our way of living this mystery.

The Convention Document serves as a guide and basis for the 2023 Regnum Christi Territorial Convention. It shares the general plan for what can be expected at the convention, and sets out in more detail the seven themes that will serve as the topics for discussion and discernment. Each delegate is asked to read the entire document and ponder its ideas and perspectives prior to the convention itself. Delegates will receive a printed copy of the seven themes at the convention.

Commissioned by the Territorial Directive College, this document offers delegates a territorial-level context for the convention, presenting an overview of the North American territory structure, governance and administration, plus an evaluation of the development and growth of Regnum Christi relative to the 2020 – 2023 Territorial Strategic Plan.

As part of the local phase in preparation for the 2024 Regnum Christi General Convention, each locality prepared and submitted a ‘locality one-sheet’ which captured the localities discernment of the local reality. Each locality one-sheet includes a ‘snapshot’ of the locality, some ‘bright lights’ and obstacles in living its mission, and the locality’s evangelization plan ‘placemat’. Reading through these locality one-sheets will help expose delegates to the varying and common reality in localities across the territory.

RC Education is the territorial level organization that provides support and services to help RC schools carry out their mission of forming Christian leaders in line with the charism of Regnum Christi. This document is a brief presentation of its current reality, the signs of life they see, as well as the most pressing difficulties for growing Regnum Christi.

As part of the local phase in preparation for the 2024 Regnum Christi General Convention, RC members were invited to participate in the apostolic discernment of their local reality by reflecting on eight areas of evangelization. Eight discussions guides were made available online to teams which guided them through a ‘see, judge, act’ discernment process for each theme. Notes from the team’s discussion were submitted online and collated. Reading through the submissions sheds light on how God is working in the various localities.

As part of the local phase in preparation for the 2024 Regnum Christi General Convention, each locality was invited to reflect on what stage they are at in terms of implementing the Federation. Localities were provided with a rubric to guide them in their reflection. The consolidated results provide a snapshot of where this territory stands, from the perspective of the localities, in implementing the Federation. Delegates may find this perspective helpful when considering the progress of the Federation in the territory.

Contemplative & Evangelizing

Apostles of the Kingdom with the Heart of Christ
This essay addresses a charismatic trait in all Regnum Christi members, being “contemplative and evangelizing” (SRCF 20). This duality is not just one particular characteristic of the way a Regnum Christi member lives and acts among many others. It is a vital attitude that permits us to know, love, and follow Christ the Apostle and allow him to transform us.

The Encounter with Christ in the Life of Regnum Christi

Identity, Foundation, and Dynamic
An essay that seeks to encourage the renewed practice of the Encounter with Christ by going deeper into its essence and offering principles that allow it to be adapted to each team’s circumstances. It develops the following themes: the place of this activity in the life of Regnum Christi, its historical development and its relationship to the charism, its Biblical roots, the internal dynamic of the Encounter with Christ, and the meaning of its parts.

Live the Mystery of the Kingdom

A second essay that continues on from The Regnum Christi Identity and focuses more specifically on the mission of making the Kingdom present in one’s own life, in the hearts of others, and in society. The Pledge of Friendship with Christ and each Other

ECYD: The Regnum Christi Charism Lived by Adolescents
In Regnum Christi, we have always considered ECYD to be a part of our spiritual family. This essay, then, is directed to all of us – those who have had contact with ECYD and those who have not or had it a long time ago – to all who want to find light in the mystery of Jesus Christ who comes out to meet us and invites us to live as his friends and apostles. In the following pages, we share the thoughts of the different territories five years after the publication of the ECYD Statutes.

Married Life in Regnum Christi

Making the Kingdom Present
This essay looks at how the Regnum Christi Charism lis lived in marriage. It has three parts: a reflection on the sacrament of marriage, an exploration of the relationship between the sacrament of marriage and the charism of Regnum Christi and how the two are lived together, and practical guidelines on the relationship between marriage and the way of life proposed by Regnum Christi.

Alex Kucera

Atlanta

Alex Kucera has lived in Atlanta, GA, for the last 46 years. He is one of 9 children, married to his wife Karmen, and has 3 girls, one grandson, and a granddaughter on the way. Alex joined Regnum Christi in 2007. Out of the gate, he joined the Helping Hands Medical Missions apostolate and is still participating today with the Ghana Friendship Mission.

In 2009, Alex was asked to be the Atlanta RC Renewal Coordinator for the Atlanta Locality to help the RC members with the RC renewal process. Alex became a Group Leader in 2012 for four of the Atlanta Men’s Section Teams and continues today. Running in parallel, in 2013, Alex became a Team Leader and shepherded a large team of good men.

Alex was honored to be the Atlanta Mission Coordinator between 2010 to 2022 (12 years), coordinating 5-8 Holy Week Mission teams across Georgia. He also created and coordinated missions at a parish in Athens, GA, for 9 years. Alex continues to coordinate Holy Week Missions, Advent Missions, and Monthly missions at Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Cumming, GA.

From 2016 to 2022, Alex also served as the Men’s Section Assistant in Atlanta. He loved working with the Men’s Section Director, the Legionaries, Consecrated, and Women’s Section leadership teams.

Alex is exceptionally grateful to the Legionaries, Consecrated, and many RC members who he’s journeyed shoulder to shoulder, growing his relationship with Christ and others along the way. He knows that there is only one way, that’s Christ’s Way, with others!
