New Essay: The Parables of the Kingdom as Criteria for Discernment

"As Regnum Christi members, we are called to live out the mystery of the Kingdom, making it present in our hearts, in the hearts of others, and in society. This mystery of the Kingdom implies a lifestyle lived in every personal and apostolic decision.  Jesus has given us his teachings in discourses and parables so that we know how to live according to the message of the Kingdom. The parables encourage and challenge us to live a certain way in order to make the Kingdom of God present in our lives."

In a new Essay from the Regnum Christi General Directorate’s Area of Life and Mission, Consecrated Woman Taís Gea leads a reflection on the principles of discernment we can learn from the parables Jesus told about the Kingdom of God.

In Jesus’ teachings, we find discourses, sayings, and parables. They are a compass for us as Christians, and especially as Regnum Christi members. They show the path and the direction for making our decisions. Living the Gospel message of the Kingdom of God lets us make the Kingdom present: by incorporating it into our lives, that Kingdom continues to have a presence in and an effect on the world today.

This essay focuses on the parables of the Kingdom as criteria for discerning our Christian and apostolic lifestyle in light of the proclamation of the Kingdom. While it is true that the central proclamation of the Kingdom is contained in Matthew’s “Sermon on the Mount” (Mt 5-7) and Luke’s “Sermon on the Plain” (Lk 6:20-49), the parables of the Kingdom themselves are key to understanding whether we are living our life and mission according to the demands of the Kingdom that Jesus himself proclaimed and lived.

Video: Taís Gea gives a conference on how the Parables of the Kingdom in chapter 13 of the Gospel of Matthew can give us light for discernment in our daily lives and in evangelization.

The new essay is the seventh in a series that explores the charism of Regnum Christi and how that charism is lived by its members in today’s world. Two more essays are planned for publication later this year, The Formation of an Apostle of the Kingdom: Formation Guidelines for Lay Members of Regnum Christi will be published in November 2023, and an essay on The Regnum Christi Locality as an Apostolic Body is scheduled to be published in December 2023.

The Regnum Christi Identity

according to the Statutes of the Regnum Christi Federation
An essay that reflects on what it means to live a mystery of the life of Christ and make it present in the world, and about the particular mystery in Christ’s life that the Regnum Christi identity springs from. A resource to help us to go deeper in understanding the charism while praying with the Word of God.

Live the Mystery of the Kingdom

Make it Present in Your Heart, in Other People's Hearts, and in Society
A second essay that continues on from The Regnum Christi Identity and focuses more specifically on the mission of making the Kingdom present in one’s own life, in the hearts of others, and in society. It includes workshops and questions for reflection that help us understand how to live this mystery concretely.

Contemplative & Evangelizing

Apostles of the Kingdom with the Heart of Christ
This essay addresses a charismatic trait in all Regnum Christi members, being “contemplative and evangelizing” (SRCF 20). This duality is not just one particular characteristic of the way a Regnum Christi member lives and acts among many others. It is a vital attitude that permits us to know, love, and follow Christ the Apostle and allow him to transform us.

The Pledge of Friendship with Christ and each Other

ECYD: The Regnum Christi Charism Lived by Adolescents
In Regnum Christi, we have always considered ECYD to be a part of our spiritual family. This essay, then, is directed to all of us – those who have had contact with ECYD and those who have not or had it a long time ago – to all who want to find light in the mystery of Jesus Christ who comes out to meet us and invites us to live as his friends and apostles. In the following pages, we share the thoughts of the different territories five years after the publication of the ECYD Statutes.

The Encounter with Christ in the Life of Regnum Christi

Identity, Foundation, and Dynamic
An essay that seeks to encourage the renewed practice of the Encounter with Christ by going deeper into its essence and offering principles that allow it to be adapted to each team’s circumstances. It develops the following themes: the place of this activity in the life of Regnum Christi, its historical development and its relationship to the charism, its Biblical roots, the internal dynamic of the Encounter with Christ, and the meaning of its parts.

Married Life in Regnum Christi

Making the Kingdom Present
This essay looks at how the Regnum Christi Charism lis lived in marriage. It has three parts: a reflection on the sacrament of marriage, an exploration of the relationship between the sacrament of marriage and the charism of Regnum Christi and how the two are lived together, and practical guidelines on the relationship between marriage and the way of life proposed by Regnum Christi.
